☆Japanese Grave Circumstances☆

I went to take a look at a cemetery which we will consider for my ex-husband's grave with my daughter a few days ago.

Basically, we, Japanese, have a strong background of Buddism and graves keep the deceased's ashes underneath a big cubic shape stone.
We originally have a family grave which contains the deceased's ashes of multiple generations and it has been looked after by each generation and then passed on to the next after next.
Recent family-style has changed for these several decades.
It was common in the past that multi-generation families live together. Now a day, a single-family, parents and children, becomes common and relatives live apart.
So that it is difficult to take care of and keep an old-style grave.

The new type of graves which is called "Jumokuso" meaning burying ashes underneath trees have been becoming common gradually according to changing family-style.
It also doesn't have to visit and clean up several times in one year.
Moreover, someone does not want to live together with parents-in-law or a partner even after passing away.
As a result, "Jumokuso," which is for only one person or a person with his/her pet, is becoming more common little by little. From the religious perspective, it never allows that a person and a pet put together in the same grave. As I'm a dog person, I strongly agree with this point of view.

I've got off the track and let's get back on the topic, his ashes should be placed in his family grave but for some reason, we had to find another option.

We were looking for someplace peace and beautiful for him and we found it finally.

The cemetery itself looks like a garden with beautiful flowers and trees and transportation is good for everyone including family and friends visiting.

I hired a car because we wanted to go to several places for red tape.
Fortunately, tiresome things had been done quickly, we went to Karuizawa which is famous for coolness in summer.
This was the first time to hire a K-car, a small car with a 660cc engine.
I had a prejudicial point of view for K-cars but this Honda's car was so good. It did not have enough power for driving winding roads at "Usui Toge" a mountain path though.
